February 1911: Dickens’s Birthday Celebration – Dramatic Entertainment in the Athenaeum Hall
An article on page three of The Glasgow Herald, on Thursday the 2nd of February, 1911, reads:
“DICKENS’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION.
This year the Dickens birthday celebration, under the auspices of the Glasgow Dickens
Society, will take the form of a dramatic entertainment in the Athenaeum Hall on
Tuesday, February 7. The pieces to be presented are ‘The Cricket on the Hearth,’ in
three acts, and ‘A Christmas Carol,’ a shorter play. Both productions will be under the
direction of Mr Percival Steeds, teacher of elocution and dramatic art in the Athenaeum,
who last year so successfully stage managed ‘The Pickwickians.’ ”
