** THE ORIGINAL “THE GLASGOW ART INDEX” WEBSITE WAS CREATED ON GOOGLE SITES IN ADVANCE OF THE LAUNCH OF VOLUME ONE OF MY BOOK, THE WEALTH OF A CITY: A GLANCE AT THE FINE ARTS IN GLASGOW, IN 2010. FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, THE SITE WAS UNAVAILABLE ONLINE, AS, I WAS TOLD BY A WEBSITE EXPERT, GOOGLE REMOVED SITES WHICH HAD NOT BEEN CREATED USING GOOGLE’S OWN WEBSITE BUILDER. HOWEVER THE SITE RECENTLY HAS APPEARED AGAIN ONLINE.**
The Glasgow Art Index is an online resource which contains information on a wide range of subjects relating to the history of the fine arts in Glasgow, from the 17th to late 19th centuries. This is based on thirty years of research, concentrating on archives and published sources. Data on individual artists, exhibitions, etc., will be added regularly.
Typing in an artist’s name in the box on the main page will enable you to find out more about their work, where they exhibited in Glasgow, along with dates and other relevant information. The same applies for other Categories, such as the name of an auction firm; art teacher; art collector, etc.
You also can click on any of the headings listed under Categories on the left hand side of the screen.
If you have any questions, or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact: glasgows_cultural_history@btinternet.com
