January 1863: The Glasgow Art Union – Subscribers in Ireland and Australia

A short notice on the front page of The Northern Standard, AND MONAGHAN, CAVAN,

AND TYRONE ADVERTISER (Northern Standard, in The British Newspaper Archive) on

Saturday the 31st of January, 1863, reads:

“GLASGOW ART UNION.

At the late distribution of prizes of this Art Union, we observe that H. W. Rodgers, Esq.,

Manager of the Belfast Bank, in Ballybay, was so fortunate as to obtain a valuable picture

as a prize.—In the drawing, luck seems to have been very favourable to the Australian

subscribers.”
