The Death of John Muir Wood, on Saturday the 25th of June, 1892
A short article on page six of The Glasgow Herald, on Tuesday the 28th of June, 1892, reads:
“DEATH OF MR JOHN MUIR WOOD. – The intimation of the death of Mr John Muir Wood,
which took place on Saturday at his residence, Armadale, Cove, will be read with a general feeling
of regret. Mr Wood was senior partner of the well-known firm of musicsellers in Buchanan Street,
and had reached the ripe age of 87 years. For nearly half a century Mr Wood was a citizen of Glasgow,
and was esteemed and respected by all who knew him. He was an educated musician, and his tastes
both in music and in literature were scholarly and refined. He was probably out highest authority on
Scottish song. Alike as a musician, a litterateur, and a gentleman, Mr Wood’s demise leaves a void
that cannot soon be filled.”
The notice of his death is on the front page of the same issue of the Herald.
