This view shows Jordan Hill, as it looked in the DATE. The house was constructed. The property was about 4 miles to the west of Glasgow, in parish and county of Renfrew. The house was built for Andrew Houston, in the 1780s, and it subsequently acquired by Archibald Smith, a wealthy West India merchant.
The property passed to Archibald’s son, James who was a well-known ,,, and also an architect. He made considerable additions to the house in the 1820s, and the property subsequently was photographed by Thomas Annan for the Old Country Houses of the Old Glasgow Gentry, which was published in 18
