1868: Auchendrane Mansion House and Grounds Bought by Peter Coats

An article on page five of The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald, on Saturday the 20th of June, 1868, reads:

“THE mansion house and grounds of Auchendrane have been bought by Peter Coats, Esq., of Woodside, Paisley, for the sum of

L14,000. The grounds, extending to about thirty acres, are beautifully laid off, and the mansion house, which occupies a splendid

site on the south bank of the Doon, is of a fine architectural design, and was erected ten years ago by the late Mr Fairfull Smith,

secretary to the Glasgow and South-Western Railway Coy.”
