Annual Meeting of the Glasgow Caithness Literary Association, April 1898

From page six of The Glasgow Herald, on Wednesday the 6th of April, 1898:

 

“GLASGOW CAITHNESS LITERARY ASSOCIATION. – The annual meeting of the Glasgow Caithness Literary Association was held last night – Mr Marr Grieve, president, in the chair. The secretary’s report stated that twelve meetings – debates, lectures, and social meetings – had been held during the season. The report also referred to the special objects at present being furthered by the society – the bursary fund for Caithness students at Glasgow, the schools competition fund, the proposed library of Caithness literature, and the special literary competition, open to natives of the county. The treasurer’s report stated that the income for the year was £38 and the expenditure £24, leaving a balance of £14 to the credit of the society. Office-bearers were elected as follows :- Hon. president, Rev. John Horne; president, R. W. Sinclair; secretary, John Mowat; treasurer, David Bruce; with a committee of management.”
