December 1893: An Important Burns Relic Sold to Messrs Craibe Angus and Son, Glasgow
A short notice on page two of the Aberdeen Evening Express, on Friday the 15th of December, 1893, reads:
“AN important Burns relic was knocked down at Sotheby’s to Messrs Craibe Angus & Son, Glasgow, for £50.
It was ‘a most interesting and probably unique copy of the second or first Edinburgh edition of the poems of
Burns, the blank names having been filled in by the author when on a visit to John Lee at Skateraw on May
21st, 1787.’ ”
