Glasgow Young Men’s Christian Association Lectures: Mr. William Moffat, in the City Hall, on Tuesday the 30th of October, 1866

An article on page four of The Glasgow Herald, on Wednesday the 31st of October, 1866, reads:

“GLASGOW YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION LECTURES. – The fifth of the present

season’s lectures was delivered in the City Hall yesterday evening, by Mr Wm. Moffat, professor

of elocution. Bailie Anderson presided, and there was a large attendance of ladies and gentlemen.

Mr Moffat’s lecture was chiefly illustrative, and his readings from standard authors were listened

to with eager attention. His narration of Mansie Waugh’s visit to the theatre was inimitable in its

way, and the same may with justice be said of his selection from “St. Ronan’s Well.” The Greyfriars’

Philharmonic Society, under the direction of Mr Robson, and accompanied on the organ by Mr

Lambeth, sang several appropriate pieces with much taste and effect. A collection was made at the

doors on behalf of the funds of the Royal Infirmary, and a sum of upwards of £13 was realised.”
