June 1871: Stuart Cranston & Co., 44 St. Enoch Square
An advertisement on page four of The Alloa Advertiser, on Saturday the 17th of June, 1871, reads:
“CUSTOMERS PURCHASING TEAS FROM
STUART, CRANSTON, & CO.,
44 ST. ENOCH SQUARE,
Derive all the advantage of having their TEAS
selected by a
TRAINED TEA TASTER.
This is the only Retail Establishment in
Glasgow where the principal has had a Practical
Education for the Trade.
Samples Free by Post.
TEAS from 1s 9d to 3s 4d per POUND.
A Good Selection of Coffee and Sugar at Lowest
Market Rates.
44 ST. ENOCH SQUARE, GLASGOW.”
It is worth noting that the advertisement has a comma between “Stuart” and “Cranston”, suggesting to readers that
the business is owned by two people, and not solely Stuart Cranston.
