Edinburgh, 19th December, 1815

In this letter, Anne Grant comments that she “stayed five weeks with the Jordanhil family. … That family consists of Mr. Archibald Smith, who has made a fortune in business, and has retired to enjoy and to employ it on an estate in the country, a fine place five miles below Glasgow.”
