November 1855: Free St. David’s Young Men’s Literary Society
An article on page four of The Glasgow Herald, on Friday the 9th of November, 1855, reads:
“Free St. David’s Young Men’s Literary Society. – This society resumed its meetings for the
session on Friday evening last, in the School-room adjoining the Church, North Frederick
Street, where a lecture was delivered by the Rev. Dr. Lorimer – subject: ‘Voltaire, the apostle
of modern infidelity in France’ – showing his incapability of judging the Christian religion; at
the close of which the President, in name of the society, thanked the Rev. Doctor for his
interesting and instructive lecture. It was then intimated that the society would meet during
the session on Friday evenings in the same place.”
