Anderston Church, Opening Services, Sunday 15th January 1865: Mr. Lambeth and Mr. Stembridge Ray

From page four of The Glasgow Herald, Monday the 16th of January 1865:

“ANDERSTON CHURCH – OPENING SERVICES. – This new church was yesterday opened for public worship. In the forenoon an excellent sermon was given by the Rev. Dr. Norman Macleod, of the Barony; while in the afternoon the Rev. John Marshall Lang, pastor of the congregation, officiated, and preached an admirable discourse. The Rev. Dr. Gillan, of Inchinnan, conducted the services in the evening. There was a numerous attendance at each of the diets of worship – the collection made on behalf of the church fund amounting to a liberal sum. We may add that an organ of a superior description has been fitted up in the building, and this instrument was yesterday played upon by Mr. Lambeth. A choir, under the superintendence of Mr. Stembridge Ray, has also been formed in connection with the congregation.”
