April 1855: Ball in the McLellan Rooms, Sauchiehall Street, on Friday the 20th

A short notice on page four of The Glasgow Herald, on Monday the 23rd of April, 1855, reads:

Ball in the McLellan Rooms. – On Friday night, a brilliant assemblage met in these rooms,

which, as we noticed in our last, were opened by the Lord Provost to the public for the

exhibition of Mr. McLellan’s magnificent gift of pictures to the citizens. The rooms were

decorated with taste, and the company ‘tript on the light fantastic toe’ till an advanced hour in the

morning.”
