April 1907: Work of Langside Choral Society
An article on page thirteen of The Glasgow Herald, on Friday the 19th of April, 1907, reads:
“WORK OF LANGSIDE CHORAL SOCIETY.
The first annual meeting of Langside Choral Society took place in Crossmyloof Mission Hall, Pollokshaws Road.
Mr John W. Leckie presided over a large turnout of the members. The Chairman, referring to the success of the
first session of the society, said that the great result attained by the first public appearance of the chorus in
Langside Hall was a sufficient answer to the critics who thought that a choral society for Langside and district
was unnecessary. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were adopted. Office-bearers for the ensuing session
were elected as follows, viz. : – Hon. president, Sir John Stirling-Maxwell, Bart.; president, Mr John W. Leckie;
vice-presidents, Mr Thomas Guthrie, C.A., and Mr R. G. McCulley; hon. secretary, John D. Nicolson, 4 Kinfauns
Terrace, Ibrox; assistant secretary, M. R. Gibson; treasurer, D. C. Paterson; conductor, Dr A. Davidson Arnott;
accompanist, Mrs Dykes.”
