April 1919: Miss Bertha J. Waddell, Winner of the Silver Medal at the Ninth Glasgow Musical (Competitive) Festival
An article on page two of the Daily Record and Mail, on Monday the 28th of April, 1919, covers the opening of
the Ninth Glasgow Musical (Competitive) Festival, in the St. Andrew’s Hall, on Saturday the 26th.
The day was devoted to junior vocal solos, vocal duets, junior choirs, children’s action songs and male, female,
and mixed voice choirs. The newspaper noted that:
“The standard of singing, all over, was excellent, to which Saturday’s adjudicator, Mr John Graham, Editor of
‘The Musical Herald,’ paid tribute.”
Miss Bertha J. Waddell – Miss B. J. Waddell, Uddingston, in the list of prize-winners – was winner of the Silver
Medal for Vocal Solos (Junior).
