Catherine Hayes, Grand Farewell Concert, City Hall, 9th February 1857
The Glasgow Herald, Friday 23rd January, 1857, page one, has an advertisement for Catherine Hayes’s “Grand Farewell Concert”, at the City Hall on the 9th of February. The other performers were Madlle. Corelli, contralto; Signor Millardi, tenor; Signor F. Lablache, baritone; and the pianist, Mr. G. A. Osborne. Tickets ranged in price, from one shilling for the West Gallery, to five shillings and sixpence for numbered reserved seats.
On the day of the concert, The Glasgow Herald commented in the ‘Popular Entertainments’ column, page five, that Miss Hayes would be singing “two national airs, one of these being the immortal ‘Savourneen Deelish,’ and the other Moore’s delicious ‘Harp that once through Tara’s Halls.’ ”
