Costumes for the Royal Samaritan Hospital for Women Fancy Dress Ball in Glasgow, November 1909: Copland and Lye, Sauchiehall Street, Appointed the Official Costumiers
An advertisement on the front page of The Glasgow Herald, on Tuesday the 19th of October, 1909, informed readers that Copland
and Lye, Sauchiehall Street, had been appointed “official costumiers” for the Ball. The store had engaged the services of Messrs
Harrison, of London, the well-known fancy dress, theatrical, and historical costumiers. A large selection of ladies’ and gentlemen’s
costumes were on view at Caledonian House, and a representative from Harrison’s would be in attendance, on and after Wednesday
the 20th of October, “to take instructions and to answer inquiries.”
