Costumes for the Royal Samaritan Hospital for Women Fancy Dress Ball in Glasgow, November 1909: Pettigrew and Stephens’, Sauchiehall Street, Have Arranged to Supply Fancy Dress

In a large advertisement on the front page of The Glasgow Herald, on Tuesday the 19th of October, 1909, Pettigrew

and Stephens’, Sauchiehall Street, informed their customers, and the general public, that, in collaboration with B. J.

Simmons and Co., “the celebrated fancy costumiers, of Covent Garden, London,” they had arranged to supply ladies’

and gentlemen’s fancy dress for the ball.

On view in the store, was “an excellent selection of designs and sample costumes.”

As noted elsewhere on this site, the neighbouring Copland and Lye, Caledonian House, had been appointed as the ball’s

official costumiers.
