A short article on page six of The Glasgow Herald, on Wednesday the 2nd of April, 1884, reads:

“CROSSHILL MUSICAL ASSOCIATION. – Last night, a most successful concert was given by the

association in the Burgh Hall, Crosshill. The first place on the programme was given to a cantata,

‘Narcissus and Echo,’ the words written by Marion Ross, and the music by Edwin C. Such. Mr

Peter Smith conducted, and is to be congratulated upon the very marked advance made by the

association since last session, coming as it did with a pleasant surprise upon the large audience

which filled the hall.”
