December 1897: Society in Scotland – Entertainment at the Canal Boatmen’s Institute – Given at the Entire Expense of Mrs W. L. Dunn, Park Terrace
A short notice, under “Society in Scotland”, on page 924 of The Gentlewoman (page 41,
in The British Newspaper Archive), on Saturday the 25th of December, 1897, reads:
“At the Canal Boatmen’s Institute, Glasgow, on Saturday, 11th inst., an entertainment
was given at the entire expense of Mrs. W. L. Dunn, Park-terrace, Glasgow. Mr. Hart,
who presided, gave a racy address, and the audience was large and enthusiastic. The
artists were Misses H. G. Mainds and Kinninmonth; Messrs Johnston, Montgomery,
and Hirst.”

The Post Office Glasgow Directory for 1896-1897 has, on page 180, an entry
for “Dunn, Wm. L., coalmaster, 183 W. George st.; resid. 10 Park Terrace.”
