December 1919: the Southern Syncopated Orchestra in Glasgow – Some Familiar Faces from the Jubilee Singers

A short notice in “This Morning’s Gossip”, on page seven of the Daily Record and Mail (Daily Record, in

The British Newspaper Archive), on Friday the 26th of December, 1919, reads:

Familiar Faces.

The older members of the Glasgow audiences at the Kelvin Hall this week would see at least

four familiar faces in the Syncopated Orchestra. J. C. Payn, C. C. Rosemond, Robert Williams,

and Frank Denny all belonged to the old Jubilee Singers. They are still, in different company

now, keeping alive the religious folk-songs of their race.”
