February 1916: Red Cross Nurse Song – “Florrie”, by Thomas M. Walker – Sung at the Alhambra, by George Miller Reid

A short article, on page three of the Daily Record and Mail (Daily Record, in The British Newspaper Archive), on

Thursday the 17th of February, 1916, reads:

RED CROSS NURSE SONG.

One of the features of the Glasgow Alhambra programme this week is the phenomenal success of

the new Red Cross Nurse song, ‘Florrie,’ by Thos. M. Walker, M.A., Govan High School, rendered

with fine effect by George Miller Reid.

During the intervals, nurses have been selling postcard copies of the song, and the Lord Provost’s

Fund for Soldiers and Sailors is certain to be considerably benefited by this effort. The Lord Provost

and party attended the second house on Monday evening.”
