DEATH OF A GLASGOW ORGANIST

By the death of Mr David A. Harley, formerly organist of Berkeley Street United Free Church,

Glasgow, which occurred in a nursing home last week, a well-known and highly respected

Glasgow musician has passed away. Mr Harley received his first professional appointment

many years ago from Dunfermline Abbey, but returned to Glasgow a few years afterwards to

become the first organist of Sydney Place Church, Dennistoun, where he remained for a

considerable number of years. He was subsequently appointed organist of Berkeley Street

United Free Church, a position which he held until his retirement several years ago. He was

also a highly successful teacher of music in all its branches, and held a position on the

teaching staff of Glasgow Athenaeum School of Music.”
