Performance of ‘The Oratorio of the Intercession’, College Hall, 16th of March 1819
In an advertisement in the Glasgow Herald, on the 15th of March, 1819, Mr. Thomson announced that, by permission of the Principal and the Professors of the University of Glasgow, he would give a concert in the College Hall, on Tuesday the 16th of March, featuring The Oratorio of the Intercession. According to the advertisement, this was the first time that an entire oratorio would be attempted in Glasgow.
The principal singers were Miss Thomson and Mr. Swift of Edinburgh, and Mr. R.A. Smith. The choruses would be supported by a number of eminent vocal performers. Mr. Thomson was the conductor.
After the Oratorio, there was to be an “Act of Miscellaneous Music” selected from the works of the most classical masters.
