January 1870: New Music – “The Flowers of the Forest”, Arranged by Mr H. A. Lambeth – J. Muir Wood & Co.

An article on page three of the Glasgow Evening Citizen, on Saturday the 22nd of January, 1870, reads:

“NEW MUSIC.

‘THE FLOWERS OF THE FOREST,’ Arranged by H. A. Lambeth. Glasgow: J. Muir Wood & Co.

The old setting of this fine song appears here in a new form. It is arranged as an accompanied

quartett for mixed voices, the soprano and alto sustaining the melody, chiefly in thirds, and the

tenor and bass accompanying with closed lips. Mr. Lambeth has been very successful in his

treatment of the subject, and the quaint character which has been imparted to the music will

make it a charming addition to the other attractions of the forthcoming concert of the Choral

Union.”
