July 1898: The Stillie Bursary in Music – Miss Annie A. Craig, Who Studied at the Athenaeum School of Music, Under Mr Gilbert Ferrier

An article on page six of The Glasgow Herald, on Thursday the 28th of July, 1898, reads:

 

“THE STILLIE BURSARY IN MUSIC.—The Stillie Bursary in Music, which was founded by Mrs Thomas Stillie in 1885

in connection with Queen Margaret College, has been awarded this year for the first time. The Court of Glasgow

University adopted regulations providing that it should be awarded by the Senate of Glasgow University on the result of

the examinations conducted in Glasgow by the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of

Music. The student who has gained the bursary is Miss Annie A. Craig, Mearns, who studied at the Athenaeum School of

Music under Mr Gilbert Ferrier. In her paper on counterpoint under the Associated Board she has taken honours with the

highest marks ever secured in the Glasgow centre on any subject.”
