June 1916: Belgian Reunion in Glasgow – Songs Performed by Pupils of the Belgian School, Pollokshaws

An interesting article, on page seven of The Catholic Times and Catholic Opinion, on Friday the 30th of June, 1916,

reads:

BELGIAN REUNION IN GLASGOW.

A VERY enjoyable reunion of the Belgian exiles in Glasgow took place on Saturday last, in St. Aloysious’

College Hall, Garnethill. Among those present were a number of distinguished Belgians, including the

Duchesse D’Ursel, who is taking such a close interest in the well-being of the Glasgow refugees, Dr. De

Groote, and Rev. Fr. van Sevenant, C. SS. R. The proceedings opened with the singing of the Brabançonne,

in which all present joined with enthusiasm. The pupils of the Belgian School, Pollokshaws, contributed a

number of Belgian songs with excellent effect. Dr. De Groote delivered a most interesting lecture dealing

with the influence of the war on Flemish literature.
