March 1893: 2d V.B.H.L.I. Officers’ “At Home”, in the Grand Hotel, Charing Cross, with Herr Iff and His Band

A short article on page six of The Glasgow Herald, on Tuesday the 7th of March, 1893, reads:

2D V.B.H.L.I. OFFICERS’ ‘AT HOME.’ – The officers of the 2d V.B. Highland Light Infantry

held an ‘at home’ in the Grand Hotel, Charing Cross, yesterday evening. The function was one of

the most successful that has been given in connection with the regiment. Over 200 couples were

present, and dancing was carried on till about one o’clock this morning, the music being supplied

by Herr Iff’s band. Besides the ballroom another large room was brought into requisition for dancing

on account of the large company. The whole arrangements were very complete, and were carried out

without a hitch.”
