May 1912: Glasgow Choirs for Paris – the Glasgow Choral Union and the Glasgow Orpheus Choir
Listed under “General Scottish News”, on page five of The Glasgow Herald, on Saturday the 4th of May, 1912, a short article reads:
“GLASGOW CHOIRS FOR PARIS
Arrangements have been made by the Caledonian Railway Company to run a special train
from the Central Station, Glasgow, on Friday evening, May 24, conveying the Glasgow
Choral Union and the Glasgow Orpheus Choirs en route for Paris, where they will take part
in a choral competition festival. The party will travel via the Newhaven and Dieppe route,
and are due to arrive in Paris on the following evening. The majority of the party will return
from Paris on the following Tuesday and reach Glasgow on the Wednesday evening. The
principal choirs of Europe are entered for the competition.”
