May 1913: Grand Afternoon Concert, with Miss Tina Newlands, the Favourite Contralto, in the Royal Polytechnic’s Louis XVI Restaurant, on Friday the 2nd

An advertisement for the “GRAND AFTERNOON CONCERT” is on the front page of The Glasgow Herald, on Friday the 2nd of May,

1913, the day of the concert which took place between 4.15 and 5.15.

 

The songs were: Because, by Guy d’Hardelot; We’d Better Bide a Wee, by Claribel; Walthew’s The Gleaner’s Slumber Song, and

Nearer My God to Thee. They were performed by Miss Tina Newlands, “THE FAVOURITE CONTRALTO.”

 

On the afternoon of Saturday the 3rd, the vocalist was Miss Isa M. P. Fleming, “THE RENOWNED SOPRANO”.
