May 1916: Grand Afternoon Concert, with The Saint Mungo Quartette Party, in the Restaurant Louis XVI, John Anderson’s Royal Polytechnic

There is an advertisement on page four of The Glasgow Herald, on Monday the 8th of May, 1916, for the

Grand Afternoon Concert, which was held on that day in the Polytechnic’s Restaurant Louis XVI.

 

The entertainment, which comprised songs, duets and quartettes, was provided by The Saint Mungo Quartette

Party, who were: Miss Helen Laidlaw, soprano; Miss Maggie Robertson, contralto; Mr P. S. Richardson, tenor;

and Mr William B. Hood, baritone. Also performing, were Mr Lex Holmes, violinist, and Mrs Lauder, pianist.

 

The concert was from 4.30 to 6 o’clock.

 

The advertisement informed readers that the new hairdressing salon for gentlemen was open. It was located

“AT THE NORTH END OF THE LUXURIOUS BYZANTINE SMOKEROOM.”

 

 

The name of the party is more often listed as “St Mungo”.
