October 1856: English Opera – “The Bohemian Girl” – Lucy Escott, Miss Dyer, Mr. Henry Haigh, and Mr. Durand
A short article on page two of the North British Daily Mail, on Thursday the 16th of October,
1856, reads:
“ENGLISH OPERA—THE BOHEMIAN GIRL.—We never tire of listening to the pleasing ballads
which exist in so great variety and number in the Bohemian Girl. Last night they were done ample
justice to by Lucy Escott, Miss Dyer, Mr Haigh, and Mr Durand. We are happy to observe that the
theatre is well attended, and that the re-engagement of these talented artists is being accompanied
with as great an amount of success as they experienced on their first appearance. Esmeralda is
advertised for this evening.
