October 1861: J. Muir Wood and Co., Glasgow – Piano-fortes for Exportation

An advertisement on the front page of The Glasgow Courier, on Thursday the 10th of October, 1861, reads:

“PIANO-FORTES FOR EXPORTATION.

J. MUIR WOOD & CO. have at present a considerable number of PIANO-FORTES adapted for Exportation.

Some of these have been manufactured expressly for the purpose, others have been bolted, screwed, and

otherwise prepared for the vicissitudes of an extreme climate, by their own workmen, who have had great

experience in this department. Some of the Instruments are quite New; some have been slightly but sufficiently

used to test and verify their power of resisting change. All will be found moderate in price, especially if compared

with the London tariff.

42, BUCHANAN STREET.

ESTABLISHED 1790.”

Please see the entry, elsewhere on this site, for an advertisement for the sale of one of the firm’s pianos in Trinidad,

in 1871.
