August 1900: Concerts in Glasgow Courts and Alleys
The Edinburgh Evening News reported on the meeting in Glasgow, on page two, on Saturday the 11th of August, 1900.
“CONCERTS IN GLASGOW COURTS AND ALLEYS.
A meeting was held in Glasgow Athenaeum yesterday, Bailie Thomson presiding, to give practical shape to the
proposal to institute concerts in the courts and alleys of the city. A statement was made by Mr Cheshire as to
the great success attending such concerts in Liverpool, Manchester, London, Birmingham, and other cities, not
only in brightening the lives of the poorest, but in leading them to improve the surroundings of the courts. A
resolution to push forward such a scheme was adopted, and a committee appointed.”
