October 1912: Beltane Society Festival
An article on page three of the Daily Record and Mail (Daily Record, in The British Newspaper Archive) on
Thursday the 24th of October, 1912, reads:
“BELTANE SOCIETY FESTIVAL.
The first annual festival of the recently formed Beltane Society, which concerns itself with the preservation of
traditional songs and dances, was opened yesterday when an enjoyable entertainment was given in the Athenaeum
Hall, Glasgow. Chief interest centred in a number of old time dances given by a number of girls and boys.
Mr. Robert Burnett and Miss Jenny Taggart were the vocalists, and were heard in a number of folk songs and
in other numbers with traditional melodies. To-morrow three Scottish plays will be performed, and on
Saturday another entertainment of song and dance will be given.”
