October 1922: A Dual Role – The Masked Mannequin, Who Will Sing To-day During the Mannequin Parade (3.30 to 5.30), at John Anderson’s Royal Polytechnic

As always, John Anderson’s Royal Polytechnic mounted novelty events to attract existing and potential customers. An

advertisement on the front page of The Glasgow Herald, on Wednesday the 25th of October, 1922, informed readers

about the Mannequin Parade, taking place in the store daily, during the week, from 3.30 to 5.30.

Customers were invited by the Royal Polytechnic’s management:

“TO BE PRESENT AND TO HEAR THE MASKED SINGING MANNEQUIN. THE LATEST FASHIONS FOR EVENING,

THE [sic] DANSANT, AND DAY WEAR BY PREMIER PARIS DESIGNERS WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE LIVING

MODEL. NOTABLE ATTRACTIONS ARE INTRODUCED IN THE BRIDAL GROUP AND IN THE DISPLAY OF JUVENILE

FASHIONS. PLEASE ACCEPT OUR INVITATION TO-DAY.”

An advertisement on page six of the same issue of the Herald, and under the heading “A DUAL ROLE”, includes a photograph

of “The Masked Mannequin”.
