Royal Botanic Garden, Grand Opening Promenade of the Season, May 1869
A short notice on page four of The Glasgow Herald, on Monday the 3rd of May, 1869, reads:
“ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN.—On Saturday last, the grand opening promenade of the season took
place, when the fine band of the 7th Stirlingshire R. V. from Lennoxmill performed a choice selection
of music. The weather being fine, there was a large concourse of visitors. The garden presents a most
pleasant aspect, and well repays a visit. Both in the conservatories and in the open ground there is of
late a marked improvement, which reflects credit on the energy and enterprise of the new curator.
These promenades will, we understand, continue during the Saturdays of the present month.”
