Saturday Evening Concerts, October 1855

From page five of The Glasgow Herald, on Monday the 22nd of October, 1855:

Saturday Evening Concerts.- The fourth of the series of these concerts took place on Saturday evening in the City Hall, which was crowded to such a degree that numbers of the audience left in the course of the evening, in consequence of the oppressive heat. Many persons, also, were refused admission. This augurs well for the success of any properly conducted scheme, established with a view to afford interesting amusement to the working classes. The programme for the evening was varied and attractive, and the auditory repeatedly shewed their appreciation of the entertainment by bestowing on the different performers hearty and well merited plaudits.”
