A short article on page two of the Edinburgh Evening News, on Thursday the 22nd of September, 1898, reads:

“NEW MUSICAL INSTITUTION IN

GLASGOW.

A new musical institution is, it is stated, to be started in the West End of Glasgow, under the name of the

‘Glasgow Academy of Music.’ A number of the best-known professors of music in the city will provide for

the giving of the instruction in all the branches of a musical education. The new academy will be open in

about three weeks, and it is understood that the staff will consist entirely of musicians resident in Glasgow.”
