September 1915: “The Bioscope” – Scottish Musical Notes – St. Enoch’s Picture Palace (Theatre), Argyle Street – Mr. Jean Baghon (Beghon), Pianist, Singer, and Belgian Refugee
On page 1047 of The Bioscope (page 67 in The British Newspaper Archive), on Thursday the 2nd
of September, 1915, is the following:
“Mr. Lightfoot, of St. Enoch’s Picture Palace, Glasgow, has found a gem of a pianist in a Belgian,
driven from home—Jean Baghon [sic]. In addition to being a pianist of more than ordinary merit Mr.
Baghon [sic] is a vocalist of a high order, and on several occasions has charmed the audience by his
vocal efforts’

Presumably, the contributor to The Bioscope misspelt the performer’s surname, as several Glasgow newspapers
refer to Jean Beghon.
