The Golden Age of Sauchiehall Street: June 1914 – La Scala Vocal Quartette, at La Scala, on the 25th

An advertisement on page eight of The Glasgow Herald, on Thursday the 25th of June, 1914, provides the names of the singers who

formed La Scala Vocal Quartette, and were performing that day at the cinema. They were: Miss Milly Kerr-Smith, soprano; Miss Jenny

Black, alto; Mr Herbert Thorpe, tenor; and Mr Appleton Moore, baritone.

 

The Orchestra, under the direction of Mr R. Daeblitz, played a selection of music, including works by Mozart, Haydn and Lecocq (spelt

Lecoq in the advertisement).

 

The films being shown were Her Son’s Return (Drama) and A Fishy Affair (Keystone Comedy). There were continuous performances,

from 11 till 10.30 pm.
