April 1839: Erection of a New Club-House for The Western Club, in Glasgow – David Hamilton, Architect – Notice “To Builders”

A notice on page three of The Scotsman, on Saturday the 6th of April, 1839, reads:

 

“TO BUILDERS.

 

THE WESTERN CLUB intend, immediately after Whitsunday first, to erect a NEW CLUB-HOUSE on the West Side of

Buchanan Street, north of St Vincent Street.

 

The Plans of the Buildings, and the Specifications of the various kinds of work to be performed, are preparing by Mr David

Hamilton, architect, and will be ready for intending Contractors by the 10th April next.

 

The Committee do not bind themselves to accept the lowest offer. Offers for the execution of the whole work, in a slump sum

only, will be received, but such offers must be accompanied with a detailed schedule of prices.

 

Ample security to the satisfaction of the Committee will be required for the due performance of the Contract.

 

Intending Contractors will apply to MR. J. G. BUCHANAN, the Secretary of the Club, No. 60, Ingram Street; or to MR C. D.

DONALD, the Treasurer, No. 37, Virginia Street.
