April 1919: The Late Mr Robert Alexander Ogg – Memorial Portrait by John McGhie

A short article on page five of The Glasgow Herald, on Tuesday the 15th of April, 1919, reads:

THE LATE MR R. A. OGG

As a memorial of Mr Robert Alexander Ogg, who died in May of last year, the staff of Messrs

Copland and Lye (Limited), Glasgow, resolved to place in the warehouse a portrait of the

deceased gentleman by Mr John McGhie. The portrait, the cost of which was contributed to by

every member of the staff, is half-length, and will hang permanently on the main staircase of the

warehouse. Mr James Manson, assistant general manager, presided yesterday evening at a meeting

of the employees, when the portrait was unveiled by Miss Jessie Black, who has the longest record

of service in the warehouse. Mr George J. Ogg, in accepting custody of the picture, expressed the

gratitude of all the members of the Ogg family for this mark of sympathy and regard from the

members of the staff.”
