December 1845: Sale of Late David Hamilton’s Library, by John Keith, on the 1st and 2nd
An advertisement on page three of the Glasgow Courier, on Thursday the 20th of November, 1845, reads:
“SALE OF THE
EXTENSIVE AND VALUABLE LIBRARY OF BOOKS,
Of the Late David Hamilton, Esq., Architect, Glasgow,
INCLUDING
SPLENDID WORKS IN ARCHITECTURE, THE FINE ARTS, AND
GENERAL LITERATURE, WITH A SPLENDID COLLECTION OF
BOOKS OF PRINTS,
In Royal Exchange Sale-Rooms, Glasgow, on Monday and Tuesday, the 1st and 2d December, 1845.
MR. KEITH begs to intimate that he has been instructed to Sell the above very VALUABLE LIBRARY,
in the Royal Exchange Sale-Rooms, Glasgow, on Monday and Tuesday, the 1st and 2d December, 1845,
amongst which are Vedute de Roma, da G. Piranesi, 2 vols. oblong folio; Stuart and Rivett’s [sic] Antiquities
of Athens, 4 vols. folio; Taylor and Cresy’s Architectural Antiquities of Rome, 2 vols., folio; the Unedited
Antiquities of Attica; Meyrick’s Ancient Armour, 3 vols. folio, &c.
Also, a SPLENDID COLLECTION of BOOKS of PRINTS, VALUABLE HISTORICAL WORKS, &c. &c. &c.
Sale to commence each day at 12 o’clock noon.
Catalogues are in preparation, and will be ready 10 days before the Sale, when they may be had at the Sale-
Rooms, 5, Hutcheson Street, and at the Bar of the Royal Exchange, Glasgow; of Mr. T. G. Stevenson bookseller,
Prince’s Street, Edinburgh; of Messrs. Murray & Stewart, booksellers, Paisley; and Mr. Andrew Laing, bookseller,
Greenock.
Parties in the Country wishing Catalogues, may have them, on application by letter, inclosing a twopenny postage
stamp.
Orders from Gentlemen who cannot attend the Sale, addressed to Mr. Keith, punctually attended to.
