December 1878: Joseph Noel Paton: “Christ, the Great Shepherd” and “Via Dolorosa”, at Kay and Reid’s, 103 St Vincent Street
An advertisement on the front page of the North British Daily Mail, on Tuesday the 17th of December, 1878, reads:
“ON VIEW, for a short time only,
(Prior to their departure for America),
CHRIST, THE GREAT SHEPHERD,
Dedicated, by Special Permission, to the Queen;
The Replica of which important work was Her Majesty’s
Contribution to the Paris Exhibition.
Also the Magnificent Original Picture
VIA DOLOROSA
(The Saviour surrounded by some Thirty Life-Size
Figures),
Both works painted by SIR NOEL PATON, R.S.A., LL.D.:
At MESSRS KAY & REID’S, 103 St Vincent Street, Glasgow:
Admission, from 10 till Dusk, Sixpence.”
