January 1858: The Glasgow Art Union – Prize-Winners in Ireland – Paintings and Photographic Portfolios
One of the most important aspects of the Glasgow Art Union, and other picture lotteries, is that prizes,
and other works of art, were widely distributed.
A short article on page two of The Waterford Chronicle, on Saturday the 9th of January, 1858, reads:
“THE GLASGOW ART UNION.
Among those who were successful in taking prizes at
the last meeting of this society, we find the following : —

who obtained Photographic Portfolios.
The Rev. W. Hearford, Corrick-on-Suir [sic]; John Cullen,
Enniscorthy; and H. Grubb, Clonmel, obtained paintings.
