January 1891: Glasgow Art Club – Proposed New Art Galleries at Kelvingrove

A short article on page six of The Glasgow Herald, on Wednesday the 7th of January, 1891, reads:

GLASGOW ART CLUB. – A large and representative meeting of the members of the club was held

in the club-house in Bath Street last night – Mr Francis Powell, R.W.S., P.R.S.W., presiding – to

discuss the question as to the best site on which to erect the galleries proposed to be built with the

surplus from the International Exhibition of 1888. After a full discussion of the subject, a motion to

the effect that the Glasgow Art Club strongly recommend that the proposed galleries be erected on

the site at Kelvingrove Park was carried by acclamation.”
