Members of the “Glasgow Art Brotherhood”, at the Pittsburgh International Fine-Art Exhibition, 1898

On page six of The Glasgow Herald, on Tuesday the eighth of November, 1898, under the heading “Fine Arts”, readers were informed that:

“At the Pittsburgh International Fine-Art Exhibition Alexander Roche has received a third medal and $500 for his ‘Looking Glass.’ The work of E. A. Walton has received honourable mention. Mr Roche is now resident in Edinburgh, Mr Walton in London. Both belong to the Glasgow art brotherhood.”

According to the Christie’s lotfinder, Roche’s painting was included in their Scottish Sale, in Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms, in October 2004. It sold for £9,321. The work had been owned by E. Porter, Pittsburgh, and was with Whitford and Hughes, London, by 1989.
