November 1854: New Buildings in Glasgow – the Colosseum, Jamaica Street
An article on page four of The Glasgow Chronicle, on Wednesday the 1st of November, 1854, includes:
“… the stately building in Jamaica Street styled the ‘Colosseum,’ in compliance with the passion
of Glasgow builders for London names, is now finished, and the large hall which it contains occupied
by the Art Exhibition which was last year accommodated in Dixon Street. …”
